TreeTini

“Get wasted, save the planet.” LA Times

April 15th, 2010

It may as well be VeeV’s tag line.

Not only is the acai spirit produced in a wind-powered facility, but it’s also the world’s only carbon-neutral tipple. What’s more, every time a bottle is purchased, the folks at VeeV donate $1 to the Brazilian rain forest, where acai is harvested. But that’s just the beginning for the company, which launched in 2007. For every Treetini cocktail ordered — a martini made with acai spirit — VeeV (along with partners Live It Green and Trees for the Future) will plant a tree in Tamil Nadu, an area of India that has been destroyed by monsoons.

Responsible drinking – Sun Sentinel, South Florida

April 15th, 2010

Help the Earth by having a drink this weekend. To honor the 40th anniversary of Earth Day on April 22, the makers of VeeV, “the world’s first acai spirit,” will plant a tree in monsoon-ravaged Tamil Nadu, India, for each of its “Treetini” cocktails ordered at select “eco-chic” South Florida lounges.

“We are striving to reach 10,000 trees in the month of April alone. With your help, we can grow an entire new forest, one Treetini at a time,” said Courtney Reum, co-founder of VeeV, in a press statement.

I have pledged my help, but probably can’t drink 10,000 cocktails myself, so you need to do your part. The Treetinis can be had at these locations: the Delano, Mondrian and Shore Club; Prime One Twelve; the South Seas Hotel; Crescendos; Sol Y Mar; Mova; and River Lounge.

Thirty Bars, Six Cities!

November 13th, 2008

With a recent flurry of activity, the Treetini can now be found in 30 bars in 6 cities and we’ve only just begun.  2009 is looking to be a big year for the Treetini and its expansion.  We owe many thanks to everyone that helped us get started beginning with Mike and Helen Cameron of Uncommon Ground and most recently Rob Krass and the VeeV team.  By the end of 2008 we will have surpassed the 5,000 trees planted milestone.  10,000 looks to be a attainable goal for 2009.  Raise a Treetini and cheers!

TreeTini Update – Practically Green

April 1st, 2008

I blogged last week about TreeTinis, the tree-planting martini. Here are a few updates, according to a press release:

>> The cocktail is made up of vodka, Cointreau, fresh basil leaves, fresh lemon and sugar. Yummy!

>> “To date, Live It Green and partners have planted more than 5000 trees in Tamil Nadu, India. Live It Green, an Illinois-based sustainability company, creates turnkey opportunities that allow consumers and companies to be greener, faster.”

Post continues.
